Financial Benefits of Retreading

Eighty per cent of the cost of a tire is in the casing. Most of the time, the casing is still strong and in good condition once the original tread has been used. When you multiply the unit cost saving of retreading across the number of tires in your operation, your company can save a great deal of money without compromising quality or safety, especially when you consider the number of times a year you must replace your vehicles' tires! As the chart shows, retreading your vehicle's tires even once will provide significant cost savings.

Environmental Benefits

Although most people wouldn't consider a tire to be a "green" product, retreading your tires is an effective form of recycling and has several environmental benefits:

• tires take approximately 900 years to degrade. Therefore, retreading has a significant impact on your local landfill.
• approximately 18,000 hectares of rubber trees is required to meet Canada's rubber needs each year. Retreading helps reduce this consumption, thus preserving the natural environment and helping to reduce the loss of natural habitat.
• retreading takes approximately 30 per cent less energy than producing a new tire. If properly maintained, the retread will last as long a new tire, resulting in a 70 per cent reduction in energy consumption.

Concerns about retreading

Most truck fleets, airlines and major courier services take advantage of the financial benefits of retreading.

However, many hesitate because retreaded tires are frequently viewed as being unsafe and of poor quality.

Our retread plant uses the GoodYear retreading process and is registered and tested by GoodYear to make sure we are providing you with quality products. Our retreaders are rigourously trained according to GoodYear's standards, and they all take pride in the quality and performance of the products they provide you.

Inspection and empowerment are key factors in the quality of the tires we produce. Your tires are carefully inspected when they come to our plant to make sure they are suitable for retreading. We will not process any casing that may present a safety hazard to you or your workers.
